Samsung received clearance from the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation of India before activating the functions on compatible Galaxy Watch series.

KEY POINTS

  • Features of the ECG and blood pressure are limited to specific areas

  • The Samsung Galaxy Watch 6 series debuted in the previous year.

  • The Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Watch 5 will support both functions.

The Samsung Galaxy Watch 6 series was introduced at the previous year's Galaxy Unpacked presentation. With its most recent wearables, the South Korean electronics company has now added BP (blood pressure) and ECG (electrocardiography) monitoring features in India. The Samsung Health Monitor software, available for the Galaxy Watch 6 series, offers new health-tracking capabilities that allow users to conduct routine health checkups and ECG tests from the comfort of their homes. The Galaxy Watch 4 and Watch 5 series are confirmed to support the BP and ECG tracking functions.

According to an official press statement, Samsung is enabling ECG and blood pressure monitoring capabilities on the Galaxy Watch 6 series in India after obtaining regulatory approvals and certifications from the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation in India. The Samsung Health Monitor software that comes with the wearables provides access to the health tracking functions, and updates are distributed to devices via an over-the-air (OTA) deployment. It is stated that the Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Watch 5 will support these functionalities.

Users who wear the Galaxy Watch 6, Galaxy Watch 5, and Galaxy Watch 4 models firmly on their wrists can use the ECG tracking feature to measure the rhythm of their heartbeat. Every time the heart beats, sensors affixed to the skin will pick up the electrical signals it produces; the information will then be plotted on a graph. Users can create, record, save, and exchange ECG data with medical specialists using the Samsung Health Monitor ECG app.

How can I use my Galaxy Watch to check my ECG and blood pressure?

You can take an ECG whenever and wherever you like after configuring the Samsung Health Monitor app on your Galaxy Watch and Galaxy smartphone. To evaluate the blood pressure readings, you must slip the wearable up your wrist for a comfortable fit and calibrate it according to the instructions on the app.

To calculate the ECG:

  • Connect the Galaxy Watch to your Galaxy smartphone.

  • Snugly place the Galaxy Watch around your wrist, then launch the Samsung Health Monitor application.

  • For thirty seconds, gently place the fingertip of your non-dominant hand on the top button of your Galaxy Watch.

  • To access the data, open the Samsung Health Monitor app on your phone and hit the record.
